The monograph entitled "The Role of the Railway Research  Institute's Test Track in Railway Rolling Stock and Infrastructure Research" edited by Andrzej Massel, PhD Eng. has been published by the Scientific Publishing House of the Railway Research Institute.

The monograph is a compendium of information on the Test Track of the Railway Research Institute in Żmigród, a testing ground for railway transport research.

The first part of the monograph covers information of historical character, reasons for constructing the test track, history of its construction and characteristics of the facilities just before putting into operation.

The second part presents the experience of foreign railways in carrying out tests on rolling stock at high speeds. Then the characteristics of the test infrastructure located in the Test Track Operation Centre are described. The track layout, superstructure, control command and signalling devices, electric power supply, traction network, and other auxiliary facilities connected with the conducted research activity are discussed.

Subsequent chapters feature in detail tests carried out on rolling stock, braking systems, crashworthiness, pushing through reverse curves, noise testing or control command and signalling.
