THE RAILWAY RESEARCH INSTITUTE TO OBTAIN 4.7 MILLION PLN FROM THE EU FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF RESEARCH FACILITIES

The Railway Research Institute will soon obtain EU financial support to purchase state-of-the-art laboratory and research equipment. Thanks to this funding, it will be possible to carry out complex work relating to rail transport safety. Due to the decision of the Mazovian Voivodship’s authorities, the project will receive over 4.7 million PLN co-financing within the framework of the Regional Operational Program of the Mazovian Voivodship 2014 – 2020 (RPO WM). The agreement in this matter has been signed by Adam Struzik, the Marshal of the Mazovian Voivodeship and Andrzej Żurkowski, the Director of the Railway Research Institute.

The investment involves purchasing  laboratory and research equipment for three Institute’s units Materials & Structure Laboratory, Signalling and Telecommunication Laboratory, and Electric Power Department. The modern devices will allow conducting research tasks in the areas of fire tests, strength tests, fire safety of rolling stock and rail transport infrastructure elements. It will also enable conducting R&D works in the area of electric traction and power supply. The improvement of research facilities will also facilitate specialist EMC and photometric tests. The Railway Research Institute is operating for the Strategy of Responsible Development (SOR). Newly equipped laboratories will allow and contribute to implementing goals included in SOR. The purchase of the new apparatuses is an element of a broader programme embracing, inter alia, the extension of research base on the test track in Żmigród. The Institute is taking part in NCBR and PKP PLK joint projects. They are dedicated to support Research and Development of Railway Infrastructure (BRIK).

The implementation of the Project will contribute to the improvement and achievement of  state-of-the-art,  high-tech research and will strengthen the science and economy sectors. This will allow developing new technologies and construction solutions, will increase innovative products’ offer which will consequently affect the development of industry and rail transport.
